.Optical sensor technology from Stratophase offers reliable refractive index measurements even in volatile manufacturing environments

A new sensor chip technology from university spinout Stratophase, is offering a cost effective inline option for multipoint refractive index measurements. Suitable for flammable environments, unaffected by electromagnetic interference and simple to integrate for realtime industrial process control SpectroSens optical sensors are capable of detecting even the most minute changes in the chemical composition of liquids.

With precision better than one part per million, the robust, self-referenced sensor chips are suitable for use in any liquid processing application. Perfectly suited to use in laboratories and for point testing in the factory, multiple sensors can also be networked over large areas to a single readout unit, offering economical multipoint measurements.

Because the sensor units use optical signals they don’t need to be powered, and are therefore fundamentally safe for use in flammable environments, making the technology a cost-effective option for use in hazardous areas, or with combustible chemicals.

The flexible configuration possibilities, the elimination of batch testing and the real-time process information offered by the SpectroSens sensors make them a versatile and attractive solution for all kinds of industrial processing.

Stratophase has developed the SpectroSens technology based on proven science from the telecoms, optics and biotech sectors. The technology also has applications in industrial processes, life sciences R&D and food and drink manufacturing.
